RCIA - Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults

RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS (“RCIA”)
What is RCIA?

An overview of the RCIA process, as explained by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, is found HERE:

Who is this Program for?

This program prepares an adult to receive the Sacraments of Baptism, First Communion, and Confirmation in the Catholic Church. This program is for a person who is 18 years or older: (1) who has never been baptized; or (2) who has been baptized in another recognized Christian faith tradition; or (3) who was baptized in the Catholic Church; (4) who has not yet received the Catholic Sacraments of First Communion and Confirmation; and (5) who otherwise has no impediments to receiving these Sacraments.
What Will We Discuss?
We will discuss issues related to the four “pillars” of the Catholic Christian Faith: The Faith We Profess, the Faith We Celebrate, the Faith We Live, and the Faith We Pray.
What Do We Expect from Each Attendee?
Each attendee is required to complete an application; timely obtain and submit appropriate, required documents (e.g. birth certificate and, if applicable, Certificates of Baptism and Marriage, or Declarations of Nullity); obtain a Sponsor (see below); become a registered member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary-St. Richard Parish; and pay the requisite fees specified below.
We also request each attendee to commit to the following:
Be open to the Holy Spirit acting in and through your lives and the lives of others
Pray Daily
Attend Weekly Mass
Unless valid reasons exist, attend all gatherings and be on time.
Help create and maintain a safe learning and sharing environment; maintain confidentiality.
Be welcoming to one another.
Listen to and show respect for the experiences and thoughts of others.
Share your experiences and thoughts with us.
Review materials and resources provided in order to actively participate in our gatherings the following week.
Remember, the only stupid question is the one that isn’t asked.

Sponsor:

Each adult who participates is required to have a Sponsor to join them on this journey and to be present with them at the time the Sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation are received.  The requirements for a Sponsor are generally as follows: the person must be at least 16 years of age and is not a parent of the adult; the person is a practicing Catholic Christian in full communion with the Church, who has received the Sacraments of Baptism, First Communion, and Confirmation; the person is registered in a Catholic parish, regularly attends Mass, and receives the Eucharist; and who otherwise has no canonical or other impediments that would prevent them from serving as a Sponsor. Each Sponsor is required to submit copies of the appropriate, required documents attesting to the foregoing.
