Neocatechumenate Group

MINISTRY NAME: NEOCATECHUMENATE GROUP

WHO DOES MINISTRY SERVE: Families of parishioners

WHAT DOES MINISTRY DO: Faith Formation

THE PRIMARY GOALS THE MINISTRY SEEKS TO ACHIEVE:

1. Faith formation for families and children

2. Prepare members for sacraments

3. Perform community services as a community of families

HOW DOES MINISTRY SEEK TO ACHIEVE THESE GOALS: We meet once a week to conduct an educational session that is liturgically based. Children are instructed in their faith in a multi-generational, communal environment involving their whole family, instead of in a classroom setting. It is participatory and educational for both children and parents. Through this group the children make their sacraments. We also volunteer as a group to raise funds for charitable causes and the parish and to participate in parish activities.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF MINISTRY MEMBERS: To attend weekly sessions and to participate in the education and community services.

GIFTS/QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS NEEDED BY MEMBERS TO SERVE IN MINISTRY: None, although the ability to teach and lead sessions is helpful. Families volunteer to lead sessions when they are ready. There is a curriculum to follow.

TIME COMMITMENT REQUIRED BY MEMBER TO SERVE: Approximately 1.5 hours per week for meetings and additional time for community services.

WHEN DOES MINISTRY MEET: Sunday after the 9:00 am Mass

WHERE DOES MINISTRY MEET: Usually in the Religious Education building, but occasionally off property.

TRAINING OR OTHER SUPPORT PROVIDED TO MEMBERS: Members participate for at least a year before leading a session.
