MINISTRY NAME: ST. VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY, Holy Rosary – St. Richard Conference

WHO DOES MINISTRY SERVE: Individuals in our community with financial needs.

WHAT DOES MINISTRY DO: Provides person-to-person contact with families requesting financial assistance; evaluates the need and reports to membership for approval; arranges payments direct to client’s service provider; delivers support with food and clothing, when needed and available. Advises and makes suggestions to client regarding improvement in managing their financial affairs. Directs clients to other charitable or governmental resources available for support. The group participates with the District and Regional conferences in carrying out the work of the St. Vincent de Paul Society USA.

THE PRIMARY GOALS THE MINISTRY SEEKS TO ACHIEVE:

1. Grow spiritually by providing services to those in need and suffering.

2. Witness God’s love by embracing all works of charity and justice, making no distinction in those served.

3. Promote the organization to other parish members and ministries by working with them.

HOW DOES MINISTRY SEEK TO ACHIEVE THESE GOALS: Receive requests for assistance from the Parish, the Regional Diocesan network; or the “Hotline” . Respond to all requests promptly and arrange a home visit. Solicit donations and organize fundraising to provide necessary resources. Actively engage with other neighboring conferences to meet the needs of our broader community (“Twinning”). Maintain pantry of donated foods for distribution to clients. Deliver food goods to elderly or disabled.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF MINISTRY MEMBERS: Attend meetings at Parish to review requests for assistance. Participate in home visits, with one other member, to evaluate needs. Provide answering service for Hotline calls. Assist in other Outreach activities for the needy. Maintain office and pantry. Develop and maintain administrative record keeping. Participate in District Events.

GIFTS/QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS NEEDED BY MEMBERS TO SERVE IN MINISTRY: A desire to serve Christ and His Church by ministering to the poor and needy Assist ministry and attend an SVDP formation workshop when given. Virtus training is required.

TIME COMMITMENT REQUIRED BY MEMBER TO SERVE: 5-10 hours per month.

WHEN DOES MINISTRY MEET: Weekly, as needed, at 7 pm on Thursday

WHERE DOES MINISTRY MEET: Foyer area of old rectory/ office
